I traveled to the top of Mauna Kea one of the largest mountains in the world, although most of the mountain lies under water. The clouds surrounded my view point and it felt like I was entering into heaven.

Living in Hawaii has its perks. This coast is not even 10 minutes from my house. The sunset I see from my porch is completely different from the ones I see at the shorelines. A simple long exposure with an ND filter achieved this shot with milky waves contrasted with the last rays of the burning sun. Goodbye today, see you tomorrow.

The Hawaiian coastline is primarily made out of hardened lava rock that has expanded the island over the years as more and more lava pours into the sea.

Seeing lava flow with your own eyes is a rare sight. We drove our car as far as we could until the road ended and then switched to bikes to get to the lookout point. The glasslike rock scratched our skin as we sat and waited for nightfall with our camera equipment. At dusk, we captured this moment where the glowing fire blossomed into clouds of steam as it collided with the lapping waves that crashed against the cliff. We were witnessing the birth of new land and saw the raw power of brute violence of natural creation. There is no clearer evidence that the earth is alive.

As we were completing our Road to Hana trip in Maui, past Kaupo, we saw the clouds emanate from the southern slopes as dusk settled in. A sight that couldn’t be missed. Capturing it made a lot of sense.

This was a green sand beach, that felt like a step into the south of France, minus anyone around for miles. Kind of like how the south Western Australia is like California 60 years ago. Amazing!

I visited here on a day trip along the ‘Road to Hana’. This is an epic coastal drive with amazing forests and waterfalls on one side and breathtaking beaches on the other I did plan to come back here and camp for a night or two but the weather was messed up & ultimately I ended up getting a bit too distracted by other locations for the rest of the trip.
